Aerosols on a plane: 3-1-1 in the cabin, FAA caps in the hold
Spray cans fly under two rulebooks: 3.4 oz in the cabin, 18 oz / 70 oz FAA caps in checked — and cooking spray is banned outright.
Cabin vs. Hold Rules
Aerosols in the cabin must be 100 ml or less. In checked luggage, toiletry aerosols are capped at 500 ml (18 oz) per container.
FAA Checked Baggage Caps
Hazardous flammable industrial aerosols (spray paint, cooking oil spray, engine degreasers) are strictly banned from passenger flights.
